Kermes y Rifa 2023: Guarden la fecha / Save the Date

La Kermes y Rifa de San Pío V, se llevarán a cabo el sábado 22 (11 am – 10 pm) y domingo 23 (10 am – 10 pm) de julio de 2023. Se necesitan voluntarios!

Los boletos para la rifa se pueden comprar por $5 cada uno en la oficina parroquial o de un miembro de la iglesia. Uno debe tener 18 años de edad o más para participar en la rifa. Los premios de la rifa para este año:

• Primer Premio: $7,500
• Segundo Premio: $5,000
• Tercer Premio: $3,000

La Kermes, the street festival of St. Pius V parish, will take place Saturday (11 am – 10 pm) and Sunday (10 am – 10 pm), July 22-23, 2023. Volunteers are needed!

Raffle tickets may be purchased for $5 each in the parish office or from a parishioner. You must be 18 years of age or older to participate in the raffle. This year’s prizes:

• First Prize: $7,500
• Second Prize: $5,000
• Third Prize: $3,000

TIENES ESPÍRITU?

Cuando íbamos al instituto, había una vieja consigna en los partidos de béisbol: “Tenemos espíritu, sí, lo tenemos. Tenemos espíritu, ¿y tú?”. Lo gritábamos de un lado a otro con los aficionados del equipo contrario. Y aunque “¿Tenemos espíritu?” podría ser el eslogan hoy en día, vemos que la gente recibe el espíritu de muchas maneras diferentes. En los Hechos, aparecen un fuerte ruido y un viento impulsor, seguidos de personas que pueden entender el discurso en muchos idiomas. Es una reminiscencia de un estruendo: “Este es mi Hijo, mi Amado”. El Salmo 104 “Señor, envía tu Espíritu” fue también el primer salmo utilizado en la Vigilia Pascual, en respuesta al relato de la creación. Primera de Corintios reconoce que hay muchos dones espirituales diferentes, pero que debemos utilizarlos juntos como cuerpo de Cristo. La Secuencia es una hermosa oración que llama al Espíritu. En el Evangelio de Juan, el Espíritu viene a través del aliento de Jesús. ¿Qué podemos sacar de esto? Que el Espíritu de Dios no es de “talla única”. Más bien, el Espíritu Santo vendrá a nosotros, nos hablará, se nos dará, como cada uno de nosotros necesita.

GOT SPIRIT?

When we were in high school, there was an old cheer at ballgames, “We’ve got spirit, yes we do. We’ve got spirit, how ‘bout you?” We would scream it back and forth with the opposing team’s fans. And while, “Got Spirit?” could certainly be the catchphrase today, we see people receiving the spirit in many different ways. In Acts, there appear a loud noise and a driving wind, followed by people being able to understand speech in many languages. It is reminiscent of a booming, “This is my Son, my Beloved.” Psalm 104 “Lord, Send out Your Spirit” was also the first psalm used at the Easter Vigil, in response to the creation story. First Corinthians acknowledges that there are many different spiritual gifts, but we must use them together as the body of Christ. The Sequence is a beautiful prayer that calls down the Spirit. In John’s Gospel, the Spirit comes through the breath of Jesus. What can we take away from this? That the Spirit of God is not “one size fits all.” Rather, the Holy Spirit will come to us, speak to us, be given to us, as each of us needs.

Mission Appeal June 4, 2023 at St. Pius V Parish

St. Dominic Mission Society is the mission organization of the Dominican Friars of the Province of St. Albert the Great (Central USA). Our principal mission is in Puerto Rico. Our primary needs:

• Scholarships for 300 students: Families in need due to earthquake and hurricanes, who have students at our grade school and high school at Nuestra Señora del Rosario parish in Yauco.
• Roads and parking: Multiple hurricanes have destroyed our main roads, entrance and parking lots at Casa de Predicación retreat center and at our priory with chapel in Bayamón.
